His research intersects with his previous training and interests in the fine arts. His recent work appears in Reading Research Quarterly, Teachers College Record, Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy, and the Creativity Research Journal, among other venues.
In 2007, he co-edited the fourth volume of a 50-year-old series about secondary school literacy, published by the National Council of Teachers of English. Further, he is editor and author of the curriculum and instruction volume for Sage's forthcoming ‘Debating Issues in Education' book series. For four years, Jonathan Eakle was co-editor of The American Reading Forum Yearbook. He is a member of the Johns Hopkins University Press Faculty Advisory Board and the Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy's Editorial Review Board.
